in class lab: Vape's Position

In the News Article Wendy states "People who use e-cigarettes say they don't smoke but "vape" since the devices heat nicotine into a vapor they inhale. Many see the cigarette lookalikes, which contain no tobacco and far fewer chemicals"(quotation from online article)

In wikipedia a quote states that, "Non-smokers who use e-cigarettes risk nicotine addiction[23] and their use may delay or deter quitting smoking."

According to Donald Blakely, In his book, (2) PG VG and NIC Oh My! DIY E-Liquid beginners guide, He says "There are five main sections in this book covering everything from equipment, software, ingredients, mixing, health and safety precautions and other important considerations."(2)

Blog: Essay Exercise Pg. 92-100

1. She mentions in early part of the essay that "Fossil fuels are dwindling and global warming is attributed from the carbon dioxide gases fuming out from green houses." Early part in the essay expresses a problem of global warming. That not only affects her but every body in the entire world which convinces me plenty.

2. Spriggs argues that from buying from local shops or farmers reduces overall gas fumes. On the other hand, Alex Avery, a director of research and education at the center of global food issues. pointed out that "shipping food from all over the world is a waste of energy and time" Spriggs later responds saying "if we buy only locally we would be sacrificing and not getting certain foods in any season but in the long run it would make foods more enjoyable."

3. I would have to say the last concluding paragraph is the most effective because it not only restates the Thesis toward her argument it restates it with concluding evidence to support her thesis.

4. f.1 shows a picture of pumpkins most likely mid October setting. while talking about buying locally she points out that gases from green houses are a problem. f.2-3 show a garden and farm and while talking about environmental issues. f.4 shows a picture of trucks and talks about economic travels and distributing foods across the world.

The images in this grouping together also convey the concept of individual personality as the styles of a watch itself may vary and become a reflection of a quality each person may wish to convey.

The images in the Symbols of Patriotism grouping are communicating the collective symbols of the “Noble” attributes of their country.

Symbols of Patriotism: The bulldog is standing definitely and it looks like it is proud to be standing on the flag defending britain against all of her enemies.          

The american eagle - symbol for the United States of America, the Eagle is posted on every dollar and is a national symbol for American patriotism. The eagle is looks as if it is preparing for battle, flag seeming to symbolize camo paint that soldiers paint on their faces before going to battle, the eagles beak is sharp and its eyes give a fierce look in its eyes like it ready to pounce on any threat that arises.

The British Bulldog on the British flag became a popular symbol after World War 2 representing the determination of the country. This being because the Bulldog was seen as having a determined nature.

The Last symbol is France and instead of animals as its figure it instead has what seem to be 3 books stacked on top of eachother and say Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite which in english translate to Liberty, Equality and Fraternity

All of the flags are of the three colors, Red, White and Blue

  The Rolex watch suggests wealth and power. It’s extremely expensive, covered in diamonds, and usually worn by rich people in positions of power. The name Rolex is well known and the diamonds convey that it costs a lot of money.

  The Hello Kitty watch suggests a female owner who likes the character Hello Kitty, which is very well known. It’s got a picture of hello kitty on the watch face, and a few rhinestones, as well As the words Hello Kitty.

Reading Sources Critically

The argument the author makes is that white people cannot say the n-word. He uses examples of how other races i.e. jewish comedians may use “derogatory” jokes about themselves but if someone whom was not of that culture made those jokes they would be considered racist towards that particular community.

I find the argument to be quite persuasive. The arguments he makes are very clear; you can talk about your people, but no one else should. essentially saying jokes towards your group doesn't necessarily mean that other people from outside your group can make the same jokes toward your group.

The author’s stance is mainly towards common group relations and the use of certain language and speech toward other groups. Author also acknowledged rednecks and jewish people and the humor related to those two groups and how they can be considered offensive if miss used.

The publisher brings the stance of cultural diversity to the college at which he is presenting  (Boston College.)

I do recognize the idea that you shouldn’t joke about a community that you’re not a part of. If you aren’t Jewish, you shouldn’t make Jewish jokes, etc.

This source supports my position because I personally feel that if you aren’t part of that community, or have not been personally slighted, then you have no right to try to reclaim words that have been used as slurs.

I can tell that the intended audience are those of different cultural backgrounds other than those of the African American community, and the purpose is to bring awareness of the cultural diversity and etiquette.

In the reading I learned that it is important to be strong in what you are talking about and to exploit the viewers interest, so to speak. Writing also needs to have good information such as historical and meanings to better take a firm position on what you are talking about. Writing also needs a firm understanding on what exactly it is you are talking about but also needs concrete information to back it up. The writing should stay well on task of influencing the readers while maintaining a clear tone and view.

   In a recent essay I have written I took the view of a first person perspective and proceeded to talk about how an old teacher of mine influenced me in to writing and reading. In the essay I have stated a passion for reading but was uninterested in writing, but the teacher was adamant about pushing me higher. She persuaded me to write a story and nothing more other then making sure it was my own. In the essay I was somewhat put off about the how writing thing but later found my self thinking about what story to write about. throughout the essay my stance changed toward a passion for both reading and writing rather than just reading.

Blog Post: "Yes We Can"

   The video titled "Yes We Can," is a response and voiced over music video on the speech of Barack Obama. The Video used Voice over and song to reiterate and give power to the speech using a type of Rhetoric known as Anaphora by repeating the phrase "Yes We Can." Throughout the song different people take turns voicing the speech while Obama is talking and by doing so empowers the overall speech. Since there is more than just one person talking and saying "Yes We Can" over and over again with many people one the front. The viewer may be more inclined to think that maybe "We Can" make a difference. A sentence from the speech and lyrics state that the voices of millions of people can move a nation so to speak saying "We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in our way of the power of millions of voices calling for change." Poses the question, "Can we do this?" "Can we clean the nation?" and the simple answer being, "Yes We Can."
