Narrative's Ahoy

1.        In the Narrative story “Lydia’s Story” a visual narrative that created a detailed picture in my head was, “She was unable to shut the door against the brown rushing water. She tried not to panic. Seeking higher ground, she climbed on top of her dining room table.”(Pg. 129 Everyone’s An Author)
2.        A Dialog that stuck out to me was her resolve and strength during the event. “As Lydia was telling us her story, I heard strength and resolve in her voice. She was proud that she had “kept her head,” which had saved her life. She knew that she didn’t have a home to return to, that everything in it was probably destroyed.”(Pg. 131 Everyone’s an Author)
3.        A sensory description from the same story that stuck out to me. “Lydia waited, cramped on the top shelf of the linen closet, until the water finally began to recede. When we asked if she got hungry or thirsty, she said that she didn’t remember feeling that way. Her tongue became dry and her lips were cracked, but she only was aware of being terrified of the water.” (Pg. 130 Everyone’s an Author)
4.        Topic- Thinking back I remember doing a Story unrelated to school or anything. Was only in 4th or 5th grade and told my teacher I wanted to just write a Fantasy Story about mythical dragon and a Hero becoming friends.
5.        Purpose- Retelling a childhood story and exploring a bit of the past.
6.        Audience- Would be a select few who share the same kind of memory I had as a child.
7.        Stance- Since I was really passionate about this short story when I was a kid, I feel like Reminiscing about it would jog memory.
8.        Media/Design- The Narrative would most definitely be in print with possible sketches to go along with it.
9.        What do I see- Classroom portable, full of children and Teacher up front with her desk strategically place by the door.
10.    What do you hear- Constant chattering of children, birds chirping outside, Deep billowing of the Air conditioner connected to the Portable.
11.    What do you smell- Kind of smell you would find when combining a mix of card board and chalk, with the sweet smell of pine trees.
12.    How and what do you feel- Passionate about Fantasy and Myths, cold steel of the desk, Teacher’s somewhat gentle aura always welcoming you into the classroom like a hen to her chicks.
13.    What do you taste- taste the taste of after noon snacks and the after taste of school lunch.
14.    People around me and image- Children around me have bobbed haircuts and casual clothes, boys mostly had short hair and messy clothes from playing at recess. Most notably though was my teacher who wore the tallest black dress you would every see. Like a nun outfit without the white trim and the cap. She also had a short shoulder length black hair as straight as possible. Often times she would use outdated humor that didn’t seem funny. But we laughed to be considerate.
15.    What happened- as I came in from lunch the Teacher was welcoming students into the class. As I made my way toward the desk I am assigned to the feeling of eating too much and the taste of milk still lingered in my mouth. While everyone was slowly but surely flocking in, she stated that today was going to be a free day due to the fact of completing an essay. I had just talked to a peer about this cool story I had in mind when the teacher over heard the conversation and came over. Knowing at how passionate I was talking about the story she then made the idea of writing it and elaborating on the topic. Having this story apart of my life has been an asset knowing that I can truly be creative and express words in my own way.
