Class Lab: Rubin's Essay

Advertisements R Us
Melissa Rubin, an English major and graduate of Hofstra University wrote an analytical essay on how an Ad reaches its desired audience and enchants them in a way. Her Essay also focuses on a Coca-Cola Ad in the 1950's and breaks it down in to an analysis that explains how the Ad targets the audience and also goes into detail about the historical background of the ad itself. She informs the reader of the different obstacles people in the 1950's faced and why the Advertisement related to them so much. Melissa also takes into account, the Symbolic "Sprite Boy" that is hovering and almost the more dominant thing to be seen second to the almost overwhelming Coca-Cola Machine, Suggesting it is hypnotically drawing you in and persuading the viewer. The article also indicates that Prejudice and segregation was still a big deal and that was why there were only white people. Also indicating that women played a small role in the era this Ad took place showing only a few women in casual dress wear. The Author concludes saying "theirs is a life to be envied and emulated, so drink Coca-Cola and live that life yourself." By ending the essay like this it gives the readers a desire to maybe try the product themselves leaving them in wonder.
